What motivates you to wake up?

When you ask yourself this question, how do you feel? What are you thinking every dawn?. What motivates you to wake up? Looking for more money… not really. It does motivate you to work extra harder so that you can reap the benefits of a comfortable life. For example, take care of your family, own material possessions, pay bills and even give to charity. Money however is not effective on it’s own as a motivator. Even for people who are very well paid, adding large amounts has a minimal inspiration. Supposing someone told you to stay at home and your account will be pumped with money every month?. How would that make you feel? Motivated? How would life feel without challenges? Without having to work?. No, the most important question, how will this affect your creativity?.

As ZigZiglar says, “Of course motivation is not permanent. But then, neither is bathing; but it is something you should do on a regular basis.”

Fear, do you feel that if you don’t do something to fix things your “perfect life” will flop?

How can you know what motivates you?

To know what makes you look forward to another day, wake up every morning, pursue your career, what motivates you! First, you need to understand yourself, begin to script about your past experiences. Write down what you has happened, present life and journal future thoughts, in this process you will observe your actions, beliefs and values. Take note of the pattern, what has remained consistent in past and over the years. Meditation is another revelation, as your mind slows down, get a closer observation at your thoughts and feelings. It helps to say some self-affirmations too and focus on how you feel when you say them.  Besides, calming your mind it will help you experience self-discovery and better evaluate your life, how do you feel about your current choices, is this what you envisioned?  

Familiarity does not motivate you

Secondly, do you feel as if you are stuck in a rut, is your life trapped in a routine. For years doing the same thing over and over, same unfulfilling job that you don’t enjoy. Same interests and hobbies, never envisioning yourself doing anything different!. Consider getting out of this comfort zone. Challenge yourself by exposing yourself to different situations that will permit your motivation to come forth. We become compelled by daily habits. On the other hand, when we are not venturing outside of what we are used too, we cannot appreciate the kinds of thoughts and rewards that will give us an extra boost when we are stressed. Have you ever thought of travelling to a country or a place that no one knows you?

Finally, if you have friends, family people around you who can be honest with you, ask them what they believe motivates you. They will possibly reveal to you how you are acting and be able to explain.
